General Information:Known for its family friendly atmosphere, terrain for all abilities, sunny southern exposure and protection from the winds, Black has been a favorite choice for skiers since 1935. One of only a few of its kind in our country, Black is family owned and operated and proudly offers an atmosphere that is quite pleasantly different. At Black you will not experience massive crowds, long lift lines and shuttles from multiple parking lots. You will experience a day on the slopes that finds you amongst friendly folks, incredible views, and wooded trails and glades that seem to have almost become extinct. Our mountainside is still so pristine that it is not even uncommon to catch a glimpse of wildlife as part of your day. This season Black celebrates its 75th birthday as the first ski area in New Hampshire, and we have made it our top priority to maintain affordable pricing to help ensure the future of our beloved sport. In addition to our extremely affordable lift tickets and rental equipment, we offer adults a learn to ski package that includes a 90 minute lesson for FREE, and a very reasonably priced cafeteria and pub menu. Black Mountain has often been referred to as 'a hidden gem' up in the hills of Jackson, a quaint New England town that is home to beautiful historic inns, cozy restaurants and taverns, live local music, horse drawn sleigh rides, ice skating ponds and winter festivals. Black was rated "Best Value in New England in Ski Magazine. 'Black is almost certainly one of the best areas you've probably never skied. Even though it's been operating for 73 years, it's still a well-kept secret. Many of the trails are narrow. They twist and turn through the woods the way ski trails should. It's a very different experience than skiing down the crowded, wide-open, straight-down the falline trails so prevalent of newer, more glamorous resorts.' -- Tim Jones of Eastern Slopes SKI PROFILE: VERTICAL DROP: 1100' TRAILS & GLADES: 43 (Novice 33%; Intermediate 34%; Expert 33%) TRAIL ACREAGE: 143 LIFTS: 4 SNOWMAKING: 98% SERVICES: Learn to Ski/Snowboard; Group/Private Lessons; Ski & Snowboard rentals; Child Care 6 mos-5 yrs.; Kids' Ski School, 3-6 yrs and 6-12 yrs.
