THE PHOTOGRAPHER – DICK POLLOCK
I have spent much of my life in New Hampshire, the last five years in North Conway. My inspiration/motivation for what I do comes primarily from immersion in the outdoors world. Having climbed all of the 4,000 footers in New Hampshire, having summitted Mt Washington over 700 times as a stage driver for the Auto Rd and being an active skier, cyclist, kayaker I have a deep appreciation for things wild and scenic. It is my privilege to interpret this world through my photography. My goal always is to capture images that need as little tweaking as possible. I don’t believe in spending hours Photoshoping my work although I admire what can be produced by those who do. As I have gained experience as a photographer I have become more aware of the importance of light in producing an interesting image and try to pay more attention to seeking out lighting conditions that will do that. If the early morning light is spectacular I’m in the car and out chasing the view ! Part of my motivation to do what I do relates to the impact of good scenic photography on individuals. I like to think that ,done right, photographs help to heighten peoples appreciation for the environment. A tree hugger I’m not. A tree lover I am ! I am a juried member of the Mt Washington Valley Arts Assn and an active member of the North Country Camera Club. I have produced a retail calendar the last several years and this summer my 70 page full color photo book “ A Mount Washington Valley Photobook” arrived in stores.
