General Information: Fryeburg Academy is an independent secondary school that serves a widely diverse population of local day students and boarding students from across the nation and around the world. The Academy believes that a strong school community provides the best conditions for learning and growth. Therefore, we strive to create a supportive school environment that promotes respect, tolerance, and cooperation, and prepares students for responsible citizenship. Within this context, the Academy’s challenging and comprehensive academic program, enriched by a varied co-curriculum, provides the knowledge and skills necessary for success in higher education and the workplace. Fryeburg Academy is set in a classic New England village, in the foothills of the White Mountains. It is a community of real people, offering a sense of belonging to all who come, and a backbone of support to all. It is close to the ocean, rivers, lakes and 800,000 acres of White Mountain National Forest, so outdoor activities are limitless, every season of the year. The magnificent natural surroundings encompass a region rich in culture and entertainment, thanks to thriving local resort towns like North Conway. Also, we are only an hour from Portland, the largest city in Maine, and less than three hours from Boston. Living here provides real learning about people from around the globe and from our very own place in the world. With a boarding population of 110 set in a larger school setting, Fryeburg Academy provides a close-knit family environment while offering the curricular and extra-curricular opportunities that can only be found at a larger school. Fryeburg Academy is a truly diverse school with students from around the world and from many different backgrounds. You’ll find encouragement and support in and out of the classroom. We serve students of all academic abilities with 12 AP courses, ESOL classes, our Language Retraining Program, Special Services Department, Honors classes, as well as technical offerings. Directions: By car Fryeburg is three hours north of Boston and six hours northeast of New York City. Boston: I-95 North to Portsmouth, NH to Spaulding Turnpike (NH 16) to Conway, to US 302 East to Fryeburg, ME (8 miles). Providence: I-95 to Spaulding Turnpike (NH 16) then follow Boston directions. Portland: US 302 West, or Rt. 25 to Rt. 5 and Rt. 113 (60 miles). Hartford and South: I-84 to I-90 (Mass Pike) to I-495 to I-95 to Spaulding Turnpike (NH 16) then follow Boston directions. (240 miles - Hartford; 330 miles - NYC). By air All major airlines fly directly to Boston's Logan International Airport. The Portland (Maine) Jetport (PWM) is served by several carriers, and rental car service is available at both airports. A year-round regional airport in Fryeburg accommodates private and chartered airplanes, with ground service available. Fryeburg Academy provides transportation to and from Portland upon request. By bus Concord Trailways offers direct daily service from Logan Airport and downtown Boston to Conway, NH (8 miles from Fryeburg). The Academy provides, upon request, transport to the Portland Jetport and Portland bus stations.
