M&D Playhouse is pleased to present Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, the tenth production in our 2017 series of eleven plays about relationships.

This production is directed by Dennis O'Neil.

The story:  Viola has been shipwrecked in a violent storm off the coast of Illyria; in the precess she has lost her twin brother, Sebastian. She disguises herself as a boy and assumes the name Cesario for protection. Thus disguised, Viola becomes a page in the service of Orsino, the Duke.  It seems that Orsino is having little luck courting Olivia, who is in mourning for deaths of her father and brother.  As Orsino's proxy, Viola is sent to Olivia with love letters.  Olivia is intrigued by the young 'boy'.  Viola realizes that Olivia has fallen for her Cesario rather  than  Duke Orsino--further complicated by the fact that Viola has stirrings herself for Orsino.

Twelfth Night is persented Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, November 2 - 18 at Your Theatre, Willow Common, 1857 White Mountain Highway, North Conway.  Performances begin at 7:30 PM.

Jackson Art Studio: Watercolor Monoprints

Watercolor Monoprints: The Floating Wash
(deadline for Sign up-Oct 28)

Non-toxic watercolor monoprinting is a dynamic art form combining the colorful palette and radiant flow of watercolors with an unusual diversity of beautiful and compelling techniques unique to this process. You will learn proper use of an etching press, the correct numbering and signing of your prints, plus different approaches to the medium with emphasis on double plate printing of foliage. Watercolor washes on the plate's impermeable surface allows for a floating of color in a way no other medium can. You will also be taught how to do watercolor monotypes at home without a press. This exciting process loosens artistic tightness, inspires confidence and expands creativity. You need not have previous experience in either watercolors or printmaking to achieve beautiful results. The workshop fee includes supplies: a set of watercolors specific to this process, 8 sheets of printmaking paper, two printing plates and use of class materials.

Saturday & Sunday , November 4 & 5   9am-4pm  (limit of 8 people)
$295 includes supplies: set of watercolors, 8 sheets printmaking paper, 2 printing plates and class materials.

Mystery Book Club

Mystery Book Club

White Birch Books Mystery Book Club

The Mystery Book Club meets at White Birch Books on the second Thursday of every month. A small group, discussion books range from historical mysteries to contemporary thrillers. Books are usually picked a couple months in advance, but sometimes the group goes crazy and lines up books for several months. As with all of our groups, the Mystery Book Club is open to anyone interested and can be a great place to meet fellow readers. We’ve seen wonderful friendships form and grow while discussing murder and mayhem – as it should be.

Author Afternoon with Jeff Ryan

AUTHOR AFTERNOON WITH JEFF RYAN

Saturday, November 18, 2 pm at White Birch Books

Join us Saturday afternoon for Author Jeffrey Ryan who will be at White Birch Books to sign copies of his highly acclaimed books: APPALACHIAN ODYSSEY: A 28-year hike on America’s trail and his newly released BLAZING AHEAD: Benton MacKaye, Myron Avery and the Rivalry that Built the Appalachian Trail.

APPALACHIAN ODYSSEY

APPALACHIAN ODYSSEY is an informative, fun read that invites everyone along for the adventure. As one reviewer put it, “it may surprise people that I thoroughly enjoyed a memoir about hiking the Appalachian Trail. But I did!”

The former Executive Editor of National Geographic has written that “Appalachian Odyssey is destined to be a classic of nature and travel writing.” It is a story of enduring friendship infused with historical perspective and the joys of staying true to a vision that culminate in a singularly entertaining journey.

BLAZING AHEAD

Few know the story behind the creation of the world’s longest hiking-only trail. The proposal could have died in the pages of a journal had it not been for the efforts of many people ? including two, in particular: Benton MacKaye and Myron Avery.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jeff Ryan is an avid hiker who has hiked on a number of long-distance trails including the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail and the New England National Scenic Trail. His perspectives on the evolution of hiking equipment and the history of hiking add depth to his lectures. He has appeared in hundreds of venues throughout the United States.
